The Mahavishnu Project has remained as the only ensemble to have the blessing and praise of every original Mahavishnu Orchestra member, including founder, guitarist and composer John McLaughlin.

“...a little note of appreciation for what you are bringing back to life. ....the beginning of finding my own way in music, and to hear you guys playing those tunes ....is quite amazing.” - John McLaughlin

"What is primary to me is that they are all great musicians. Everyone has to be a good improviser. You have to be able to take them to another place. These guys get there." - Jan Hammer

Featuring:

GREGG BENDIAN: Drums

Drummer/composer/producer GREGG BENDIAN founded THE MAHAVISHNU PROJECT in 2001, making it the first jazz-rock special repertory ensembles, and the only one to receive the endorsement of guitar wizard Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and all original Mahavishnu members. During Gregg's wide-ranging career he has toured internationally and recorded with Todd Rundgren, Jan Hammer, Keneally-Bendian-Lunn, The Musical Box, John Zorn, Derek Bailey, Nels Cline, Cecil Taylor, Pat Metheny, Ornette Coleman, and Zoot Horn Rollo. Gregg teaches drumming, production, and conceptual composition. In addition to being the producer of The Bottom Line Archive for Grammy-winning Omnivore Recordings, is the chief interviewer at the Yale Oral History of American Music in New Haven CT.

NEIL ALEXANDER: Keys

Master pianist, synthesist, keyboardist and composer Neil “Nail” Alexander remains passionately involved in performance and production across multiple genres - including jazz, rock, funk, blues, electronica, ambient and contemporary classical. In a career spanning more than 4 decades Neil  has made his mark on the regional and international music scenes. In addition to his long running original music project Neil Alexander & NAIL, he has worked with numerous notable artists and toured worldwide with Pink Floyd Tribute “The Machine“, where he was a driving force in the group’s sound and subsequent success.

ROBBIE MANGANO: Guitar

An experienced musician and versatile artist who embarked on his musical journey in early childhood. Through many years, he has honed exceptional skills on both guitar and bass, toured with popular musicians such as Tom Morello, Sean Lennon, Rickie Lee Jones, and played in groups like Banned From Utopia, The Mahavishnu Project, Michael Leonhart Orchestra, Ed Palermo Big Band, and lots more. With a humble approach, his guitar and bass work found its way into soundtracks and countless recordings, providing unique textures, special melodies, and solid foundations for acclaimed artists.

Beyond performances, his expertise extends to music transcription, where he has meticulously transcribed the guitar and bass works of AC/DC, Primus, Frank Zappa, Julian Lage, Derek Trucks, Trey Anastasio, Andrew Bloch and more. As a solo artist, Robbie creates original music that reflects his own musical taste, encompassing any style, and often with a sense of humor. Despite his accomplishments, he remains grounded and grateful for the recognition he's received, and is proud to endorse Keeley Electronics, Dunlop, Dean Markley, Fender, Gallien-Krueger, ZT Amplifiers, and be interviewed by Premiere Guitar, Make Weird Music, the Anatomy of Tone podcast and more.

JOEL HARRISON: Guitar

Guitarist, composer, arranger, lyricist, writer, educator, and vocalist Joel Harrison has “created a new blueprint for jazz” (New Orleans Times-Picayune). A Guggenheim Fellow (2010) whose compositions have been commissioned by Chamber Music America, Meet the Composer, New Music USA, the Jerome Foundation, NYSCA, and the Mary Flagler Cary Trust, Harrison is a two-time winner of the Jazz Composers Alliance Composition Competition and has appeared repeatedly on DownBeat Magazine’s “Rising Star” poll.

His twenty-two releases as a leader showcase his prowess as a shapeshifting composer, with works for orchestra, string quartet, solo cello, and percussion as well as the PASIC award-winning marimba solo Fear of Silence. Notable releases include Free Country, featuring Norah Jones and David Binney; the recent America at War for jazz orchestra; String Choir: The Music of Paul Motian; and Search, featuring Donny McCaslin. His ever-surprising body of work seamlessly connects multiple American traditions. Harrison’s music may be founded on jazz but veers into classical, rock, country, and all manner of American roots music. Succinctly described by the New York Times as “protean… brilliant,” he is also an active film composer, having worked on the Oscar-nominated Traffic Stop and the Sundance awardee Southern Comfort.

BRIAN MOONEY: Bass

Bassist, composer, solo artist, Mooney, is also the bandleader and founder of Jazz-Rock fusion group Piktor's Metamorphosis. He performs regularly with Neil Alexander and NAIL, Rob Paparozzi, Glenn Alexander's Jan Hammer/Stretch, Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie, Ritchie "LaBamba" Rosenberg and Mark Pender (Conan O'Brien).
