John started his first band at 16 years old in Queens NY along with guitarist Ted Horowitz a.k.a. Popa Chubby. Immersed in the thick of the Lower East Side punk scene the two formed several bands together performing at venues such as CBGB’s, The Pyramid Club, and 171 Ave. A, and opened up for bands like the Bad Brains, Bush Tetras, and The Toasters. John still appears occasionally as a guest singer at Popa's shows.
Since then John has pioneered numerous cover and original bands but is best known for both his classic punk cover band, The ReLaTiVeS, and for SPiV, an all original psychedelic Brit rock band formed with Sham Morris of One The Juggler and Mick Ronson.
John is best known for being a powerful and dynamic singer and frontman and for his innate ability to channel and emulate iconic punk and classic rock singers. He currently makes his living as a performer, and as a teacher and director at the Rock Academy, an after-school performance-based music school in Woodstock NY.
John Gullo’s ROLLING STONES is not a tribute band. John and his band of pros don’t wear wigs and costumes and pretend to be the Rolling Stones. What they do is bring an endless catalog of amazing songs vividly to life with power, skill, feel, and passion. John channels Mick in a way that is deep, effortless and authentic.
