In 1972 Peter commenced his professional career playing with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Four years later, he joined Maynard Ferguson before working with Jaco Pastorius in Weather Report and moving to Los Angeles. Peter recorded five albums with the band and won his first Grammy Award with their album 8:30.

During this time in LA, he also worked with Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Chick Corea, Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Farrell, and George Cables. Peter then moved to New York City where he worked for five years with musicians including Michael Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Eddie Gomez, and Eliane Elias in Steps Ahead; John Scofield, Bill Frisell, and Marc Johnson in the legendary group Bass Desires; the John Abercrombie Trio; and Bob Mintzer’s Big Band.

Joe Locke

Joe Locke is widely considered to be one of the major voices of the vibraphone. He has performed and recorded with a diverse range of notable musicians, including Grover Washington Jr., Raul Midón, Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Cecil Taylor, Dianne Reeves, Eddie Palmieri, Paul Simon, Ron Carter, The Beastie Boys, the Münster Symphony Orchestra, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, the Orchestra da Camera della Sardegna, and the Lincoln, Nebraska Symphony.

“Joe Locke’s playing and writing have been an absolute joy to this vibist’s ears that have been starving to hear a player who challenges himself on every tune. Joe is constantly pushing the envelope musically. The cat is going into orbit soon .... I love it!”
— Mike Mainieri

“In the select group of contemporary vibes players, Locke has claims to head the list.”
Penguin Encyclopedia of Jazz

“Locke has secured a spot among the world’s top jazz vibists – and one of the most popular. Without sacrificing his jazz integrity or intent, Locke still manages to engage even casual listeners with a mixture of edgy attitude and artistic purity.”
— Neil Tesser, Chicago Examiner
