DREAM HORIZON is a supergroup assembled by 3x Grammy-winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band, Béla Fleck & the Flecktones) and featuring Grammy-winning guitarist Nir Felder (Terri Lyne Carrington, Keyon Harrold), the legendary Grammy-nominated bassist James Genus (Herbie Hancock, Saturday Night Live Band), and 5x Grammy-winning percussionist Roy “Futureman” Wooten (Béla Fleck & the Flecktones).
Jeff Coffin is a saxophonist and composer who has earned international acclaim for his work with Dave Matthews Band and Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, as well as his 23+ solo projects. Coffin’s approach to the saxophone is marked by a fearless sense of exploration, fusing elements of jazz, funk, world music, and rock into a style that is uniquely his own. A 3x Grammy Award winner, Coffin has toured the world, captivating audiences with his powerful, emotive playing.
In addition to his work as a performer, Coffin is deeply committed to music education, teaching at Vanderbilt University and presenting well over 300 workshops and clinics around the globe. He is also the founder of the independent record label Ear Up Records and co-founder of AfricaNashville—which promotes cross-cultural relationships between celebrated African and American artists in Nashville, TN. Coffin’s passion for sharing knowledge has made him a respected mentor to aspiring musicians everywhere. On October 19, 2024, Dave Matthews Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—Jeff is one of a handful of musicians to attain this incredible musical honor. Jeff is a Yamaha Performing Artist & Clinician, a Boston Sax Shop Ambassador, and a JodyJazz Artist.
Called “the next big jazz guitarist” by NPR and hailed by the New York Times as a “whiz kid,” Nir Felder is a new voice in jazz guitar. He spent his youth playing in rock bands while learning about jazz at the local record store, inspired by icons from John Coltrane to Jimi Hendrix. In 2006, he moved to New York City and quickly became one of the city’s most highly sought-after sidemen, performing and recording with an eclectic group of luminaries in jazz and other genres including Diana Krall, Erykah Badu, Brad Mehldau, John Mayer, and Ben Platt (for the Netflix special Live at Radio City Music Hall), among many others.
He has toured throughout six continents and at venues including Radio City Music Hall and the Village Vanguard, and appeared on national television stations NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN, and Fox in a variety of shows including Good Morning America, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and the U.S. Open, among others.
James Genus is well known in many musical genres, playing both electric and acoustic bass. James has recorded and performed with artists such as Roy Haynes, Horace Silver, Whitney Houston, Michael Brecker, The Brecker Brothers, David Sanborn, Dave Douglas, Bob James, Ravi Coltrane, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Bob Berg, Makoto Ozone, John Scofield, Michel Camilo, Anita Baker, Branford Marsalis, and John McLaughlin.
Most recently, James was a part of Daft Punk's multi-Grammy Award-winning album Random Access Memories. He is currently performing with the iconic pianist Herbie Hancock, and you can see James weekly on NBC's longest-running late-night live comedy show Saturday Night Live.
Roy “Futureman” Wooten, a five-time Grammy Award winner, is best known for his masterful drumming and percussion skills and is a founding member of Béla Fleck & the Flecktones. Roy, a seasoned drum set player, is mostly known for his frenzied, inimitable on-stage performances heightened by his surreal choice of instruments: his trademark inventions “The Drumitar” and “RoyEl” keyboard. He is also a philosopher, researcher, filmmaker, and educator. His impressive solo career and “Black Mozart” projects span the genres of classical, jazz, soul, gospel, and spoken word.
